It’s good to be a Bezos! As was first reported by The Real Deal, Miguel and Jacklyn Bezos — respectively the stepfather and mother of Amazon overlord Jeff Bezos — are widely believed to be paying $74 million for two side-by-side mansions in Florida’s Coral Gables, an affluent city about seven miles south of Miami. Both homes are waterfront and tucked away within a guard-gated community, and together they span four contiguous acres.
The two properties were sold by two different sellers in two separate deals. One of the transactions, for a $34 million mansion, closed last week. The house next door, which is reportedly still in escrow, will cost the Bezos parentals a whopping $40 million. According to the New York Post, who cited unnamed sources, Jeff Bezos himself (unsurprisingly) helped cover the cost of this real estate spending spree.
The $34 million house was sold by Raul Colvoz, the former CEO of PetsMD, and his real estate agent wife Raquel Cordon. The couple bought the property in 2018, paying “just” $8.5 million, but extensively renovated and expanded it before putting it up for sale this year, asking $34.9 million.
The $40 million house next door was never on the market, but it’s being sold to the Bezoses by “Real Housewives of Miami” star Nicole Martin and her husband Anthony M. Lopez, a flashy attorney with a penchant for Ferraris and private jets. Lopez paid $14 million for the house three years ago; he and Martin subsequently renovated the entire premises, and the “chicly understated” property was recently photographed for Architectural Digest.
While obviously a massive sum of money, the $74 million deal is just the latest in a long string of huge real estate purchases in south Florida, which has been inundated by wealthy financiers from New York and abroad, and billionaire tech moguls from Silicon Valley. Just two months ago, Oracle kingpin Larry Ellison bought a Palm Beach County estate for $173 million — an amount that easily ranks as the most ever paid for a home in the Sunshine State.
As one of the world’s wealthiest men, Bezos and his longtime partner Lauren Sanchez, a veteran journalist, maintain a fleet of luxury homes all over the United States. They’ve got several luxury condos on New York City’s posh Fifth Avenue, a historic Washington, D.C. mansion, large homes in Seattle and a $78 million oceanfront residence on the Hawaiian island of Maui. But for now, the couple’s main residence remains a $165 million estate in Beverly Hills.
